Safe Sanctuary Policy:  Policies and procedures have been adopted to help keep our church a safe sanctuary for our children and youth.  Fortunately, this is not initiated in response to problems within Salem UMC, but it is prompted by awareness of problems in other churches that have allowed for the abuse of children by paid and unpaid child and youth workers in the church, as well as by other minors.  The advice of experts has shaped our response and assures us that what helps protect our children and youth also helps protect our church from unfounded charges and legal liability.  These policies and procedures will enhance our service of Christ.

Nursery Care:  Nursery Care is available in Fond du Lac during Sunday School for infants through 2 years old.

Sunday School Classes:  There are currently 10 classes at Fond du Lac and 2 classes at Lamartine.  Classes begin for children at age 3 and continue through adults.

Registration:  Each student will have a registration card.  The card provides the staff with information on interests, allergies, birth date, and emergency contact.  Students can be registered at any time during the year.

Rally Day:  Rally Day at both sites is when Sunday School resumes in the fall.  Rally Day 2010 is September 12 at Fond du Lac and October 3 at Lamartine.  On this day, the new 7th graders are presented with Bibles.

Attendance:  Regular attendance in the variety of educational programs is important to children, youth, and adults. Consistency develops a sense of belonging.  In our world of bits and pieces, it is very important for each of us to have this kind of stability and opportunity to grow in faith.  Parental participation in adult classes or as teachers/helpers displays the clear message to children that studying and learning God’s Word is important.

Offering:  Offerings are taken during all Sunday School classes.  Offering envelopes for children are available through the Sunday School teachers or the church office. These monies go into the general ministry budget and offset Sunday School expenses.

Christmas Program:  There is a Sunday School Christmas Program at both sites.  It is presented during the worship service on a Sunday in December.  Watch the Kaleidoscope for dates.

Sunday School Music Groups:  The music groups meet during the time between worship and Sunday School at Fond du Lac – 10:00-10:30. Each group sings in the worship service several times during the Sunday School year.

Praise Singers:  3 year olds through grade 2
Spirit:  Grade 3 through grade 12

Cradle Roll

Upon the birth of a child to a church member, the parents are sent a card followed by a monthly mailing until the child is 3 years old.  This is an informative, helpful, and entertaining newsletter to guide their child in Christian faith. The child’s name is also placed on the Cradle Roll notice board.  At 3 years old, the child graduates from the Cradle Roll into Sunday School.
