Confirmation

Salem invites any seventh and eighth grade student to join our confirmation program. During this two year-period, students are given an opportunity to work with classmates, class leaders, parents and mentors to discover the development of their faith, what Christians believe, and what it personally means to be a Christian and church member. The Service of Confirmation is held on the first Sunday in May of eighth grade at both of our sites. Membership in the United Methodist Church is based upon a public witness of faith and our program is designed to help youth understand the witness they are going to make.

The purpose of the first year (usually seventh Grade) is to provide students with a basic understanding of our Christian heritage and faith. Questions that come to mind during the reading of the scriptures and assignment are encouraged to be brought to class so that they can be discussed together. Classes are Wednesday evenings, 6-7pm for 26 weeks at the Fond du Lac site.

The second year of the program (usually eighth grade) combines a mentor/confirmand team, which will give students an individual and personal encounter in learning about and experiencing Jesus Christ and the church. The team will meet at times when it’s convenient for them, combined with meetings with Reverend Jack Stubbs every other month, October – April, on Wednesday evenings, 7:00-8:00pm at the Fond du Lac site.

For more information, to get a schedule of classes, or to preregister, please call Julie in the church office at 921-8605.
